Dr. Nick was standing in front of a full length mirror, looking at the new suit provided to him through his new employer, Wuxing. He gave the lapels a tug and held his hands there, noticing how the tailor made plenty of room to conceal his machine pistol. These last few days did not turn out in any sort of way he had expected, but that does not mean he was disappointed either. The BNSF team had performed to such a caliber to be offered legitimate employment. Having a life where you want for nothing is quite a change, one that Nick HAD been used to many years ago, but the became accustomed to the tunnels which, until very recently, was home. Not a good home……but home.
So with those thoughts in mind, Dr. Nick shrugged off his new suit jacket and changed back into more of his squalor-like attire from when living in the tunnels, grabbed his medical equipment and head out the door of his new place. He was going to the tunnels. Back to see the regulars that he had come to know as his neighbors, and who he had aided not so long ago. He was one of the few qualified medical providers down there and Dr. Nick had a hunch no others would be showing up to take his place anytime soon. He set up shop, saw some of the regulars, but not all. There were sideways glances cast his way, clearly because he had gone corporate, and some even just downright glared and didn’t try to hide it. But he wasn’t there for validation or showing a holier-than-thou attitude towards his previous tunnel neighbors. It was because nobody else would be here to do these services. And because it was “normal” to Dr. Nick. But he knew that he’d not be here as frequently as before, and he would tell his patients this as he made his rounds. They would just smile, give him a nod and say everything would be OK. Or a few just wanted to get patched up, get an injection to help them quit the addiction, or make some crazy rash go away that makes them always itch their junk, and then just be on their way with hardly a thank you.
Back up on the surface, and back to his new Wuxing funded pad. It was fairly Spartan, other than the food. Dr. Nick definitely was not skimping on his diet anymore and was trying to enjoy these finer things while they lasted. But when sitting at home alone, just watching might be airing, Dr. Nick couldn’t help but just feel…….pent up. Hoping for something to happen, not just looking at new biotech upgrades. He decided to just go hang out at Wuxing HQ and try to schmooze with some R&D departments, see what was what. If they were expanding and making their own hitter team, which the team had the soft employee title of Market Optimization Specialist, he would suspect the company would be investing more on tech to keep this new department……alive. So Dr. Nick kept himself occupied that way as well when not making “adjustments” for the company. And going to get drinks with his team now and again to talk about anything NOT Wuxing or running for a bit. #AdultLife
